McMuffin inventor honored
McDonald's has honored the Egg McMuffin's inventor with their Lifetime Achievement award.
Herb Peterson invented the McMuffin when he was a McDonald's franchise owner in 1971 when he decided his restaurant was missing out on breakfast business by not opening until 11 AM (like all McDonald's at the time).
Peterson's personal favorite breakfast, Eggs Benedict, served as his inspiration. A local blacksmith forged the metal rings to fry the right sized eggs for the hand-held sandwich.
